Working With SmartBatch 2009 Data Sources

The Administrator is used to configure your Windows automation processing environment. The Executive Server, Notification Server and Remote Agents use this configuration information to determine when and how to process your configured objects. This configuration information is stored in a SmartBatch 2009 data source.  When you first install SmartBatch 2009 a database file named sb.mdb is created and used as the default database..  Optionally, you can specify an existing DB2, MySQL, Oracle  or SQL Server database.  You can obtain the express versions of these database servers from the software vendor's web site.

Database Product Support

The following database products can be used to host the SmartBatch configuration:

Access
DB2
MySQL
Oracle
SQL Server

SmartBatch needs a data source to store its configuration information about Operation, Steps, Jobs, Schedules, etc.  SmartBatch 2009 supports the use of the Microsoft Access database by default.  This database can be used in the Lite, Standard and Enterprise versions.   The Access database is required for the Lite Edition of SmartBatch.  The Standard Edition supports SQL Server Express and Access.  With the Enterprise Edition you can use any of the above database products.

Creating A New Database

You create a new data source using the SmartBatch 2009 Database Management tool.  This is available from the Start Menu > Programs > SmartBatch 2009 > SmartBatch 2009 Database Management.

Moving or Migrating Data

SmartBatch 2009 provides a tool to move data from one version of the SmartBatch 2009 database to the latest version. This tool can also be used to merge data from one to source into another. See Database Migration for more detailed information.
