Database Management Overview

SmartBatch provides support to host the SmartBatch configuration in the default Access database or any edition of SQL Server.  When SmartBatch is initially installed the Microsoft Access database file (sb.mdb) is used for the data source.  This can be changed to any of the supported database products using the Database Management tool.  The Database Management tool has several capabilities as described below.

To run the Database Management tool:

From the Start Menu select All Programs > OnLine ToolWorks > SmartBatch > Database Management Program.

The table below summarizes the capabilities that exist to help you manage your SmartBatch configuration:

Capability

Description

Install or Identify SQL Server to be used with SmartBatch

Provides the ability to setup and maintain the data source (database product) used to host the SmartBatch configuration.

Copy objects

Provides the ability to copy objects (e.g., Operations, Steps, etc.) from one SmartBatch environment to another.  For example, you might want to move an Operation from your test SmartBatch computer to your QA or Production SmartBatch computer.  This utility provides the ability to select the individual objects you want to copy.

Copy to a new database

Provides the ability to copy all object from one database to another database.

Migrate an existing (SmrtBatch32) database to SmartBatch

Contact product support to migrate an older SmartBatch32 database to the latest.

When you run the Database Manage program the following window is displayed.  You can click on "hot spot" areas in the picture below to get detailed information about buttons, controls and fields.
