Overview
A new install (i.e., SmartBatch has not previously been installed on the computer) of SmartBatch consists of two main parts:

SmartBatch files and configuration are installed. This includes the SmartBatch Executive Server service, Administrator, Notificaiton Server, etc. |

2. |
The install and configuration of the database used by SmartBatch. By default the database used by SmartBatch is a Microsoft Access database file (sb.mdb) This provides a sufficient database for evaluation and some production environments. For the best performance and robust use overtime, you will want to use SQL Server to host the SmartBatch configuration. This includes any version of SQL Server Express (free edition of SQL Server). |
To update a currently installed version of SmartBatch you obtain the update/patch installer from the download area or by sending an email to support. The update installer will overwrite the current binaries in the bin folder and will not change any of your settings or configuration.
The SmartBatch Database Management program is used to configure the database server that will be used by SmartBatch. You can change the database server at anytime using this program.
Run the SmartBatch Administrator from the Start Menu, OnLine ToolWorks, SmartBatch, SmartBatch Administrator.

Microsoft .NET Framework
The .NET framework is a prerequisite to the install. The .NET 4.5 Framework is a prerequisite to installing SmartBatch. If it is not installed, the installer will prompt you with a message to first install the 4.5 .NET Framework and will then exit. The Microsoft .NET framework can be obtained by using Windows Update from the Start Menu on your computer. Use Windows Update or visit the Microsoft web site download area to get the .NET 4.5 Framework as necessary.
