Setting Up Notification

Notification Setup allows you to configure the communication parameters for SMTP EMail.  For SMTP, you must have SMTP services available on your network and the computer running the Notification Server must be connected to the network with the appropriate authorization. If necessary, contact your network/mail administrator for specific information about your environment.

The following picture shows the Notification Setup window. You can click on "hot spot" areas in the picture below to get detailed information about buttons, controls and fields.

Send From Address

This must be a valid Email address. You may need to check with your Email administrator to set up an appropriate address.

Mail Server Name

The name of the SMTP mail server on your network.

Example: proxy.hf.intel.com

Mail Server Port

This is the SMTP/Mail server port value. This value is typically 25 and should not be changed unless your email or network administrator advises you to use a different value.

Mail User Name

The user name (email address) known to the mail server for authentication. Some SMTP mail servers will require authentication with a Mail User Name and Password for email to be processed through the server.

Password

The password associated with the Mail User Name (email address) used to authenticate with the mail server.

Test Notification Button

Causes the Send Message dialog to be displayed where a test notification can be created.

Delete Notification Events Button

Deletes all the Notification events in the database associated with the current Application Group.

Windows Setup and Configuration Notes

Make sure the Send From address you are using is a valid email address that your email server will recognize.

If you are not using the Mail User Name and Password, you must make sure that SMTP Service is setup on your computer (the computer where the Enterprise, Standard, Lite or Free Edition is installed).  Check the SMTP configuration to make sure it can relay email as follows:

Open up IIS Admin MMC, find the SMTP Virtual Server, right-click, and then select Properties.

Go to Access Tab.

Click on Relay.

Click on ADD.

Enter the IP Address of your computer in IP BOX.

Click OK.

You will need to restart the SMTP service and restart the SmartBatch notification server (NS).  You can restart the NS by stopping it either by using the close button on the user interface or just end task through the Windows Task Manager (ns.exe).

Note:  Starting with version 5.0.0.116 the Notification Setup window provides the ability to specify a Mail User Name (email address) and Password.  If this capability is used, the Relay configuration specified above should NOT be used.  When providing the Mail User Name and Password the SMTP server may be on another computer so it is not necessary to install or configure a local SMTP server.
