History List

The History list shows the Date and Time an Operation, Step or Job had activity.  History entries are created for Operations. Operations can be configured to write to History at start, success or failure. This is configured on the Operation Properties window.  The Operation History entries can be deleted by right-clicking on the History list and selecting either the Delete Selected or Delete menu item. You should occasionally delete History records so that the SmartBatch database does not continuously grow using valuable disk resources or potentially causing the database to grow larger than necessary.  Over time, writes to History without ever deleting older data will eventually lead to the database or disk to become full.

The following picture shows the History list.  Select the History node in the tree view to display the History list. You can click on "hot spot" areas in the picture below to get detailed information about buttons, controls and fields.

Viewing History Records

To view History records:

If an Application log file has been configured with the Operation (see Operation  Properties), the Application log file can be viewed to determine what is in the file.  When you configure an Operation on the Operation Properties window you can specify an Application Log File (that is, Output File name).  If you specified one, it will show up in this column.

Time Detail shows the milliseconds for the time in the Date/Time column.  You may want to see the millisecond information for Operations that start and complete quickly.  This information provides more precision to determine the start and end time of your Operation.  By default, the milliseconds are not shown.

To turn on or off Time Detail:

1.Right-click on the History list.

2.Select the Time Detail menu item.

Deleting Log Records

You delete History records by selecting the Delete menu item available by right-clicking on the History list.  The Delete History dialog will be displayed.

SmartBatch History Automation

You can automate the maintenance of the SmartBatch History. See Maintaining the SmartBatch History for detailed information on configuring History automation.

CreateProcess Error Codes

Typically, the description associated with an error code will be displayed.  A list of common Windows error codes is provided for easy reference under error codes.  These are errors that can occur when the Executive Server attempts to start an Operation.  For a complete list of error codes refer to the Microsoft Developer Network (MSDN) documentation.

Audit Entries

The ability to list audit entries is also provided using the History List.  Auditing is setup through the ESService.exe.config file as defined in Auditing User Changes.  You can list the Audit entries by selecting the Audit Info menu item located under the green down arrow icon in the upper left corner of the picture shown above.
